  • For Visitors:

DRESSCODE: More on the dressy side. Didn't see anyone over the age of 10 in jeans
WORSHIP STYLE: Acappella Hymns throughout the service
PREACHING: a little dry - though to be fair, I tend to fall asleep during most sermons
KIDS: There is a nursery available for kids up to 2 (might have been THROUGH 2?) but the rest of the kids are with their families during the service. There is Sunday school before the service, but we didn't go to that, so we can't speak about it.
WELCOME: When we first got there, there was no one to greet us, I assume that it was because everyone'd already been there for Sunday School. But once we got into the sanctuary, plenty of people said hello, and took a minute or two to talk to us. I felt very welcomed by the time I left. We were encouraged to come back for a Wednesday evening fellowship meal.
COMMUNION/Lord's supper: They pass a plate with a cracker, you break a piece off (a really small piece, it seeemed) and then they'll pass a plate with grape juice, you drink it, and put the cup back on the plate before passing it. If you're given to feeling awkward, you will want to know this.

  • We were able to attend Bible Study Sunday morning with this congregation and then Worship services following the class. The Bible study class start time is 9:00am and Worship service at 10:00am.

We were greeted by the congregation in the auditorium area, where we picked up a bulletin. We were shown where the classes were being held.

The Bible study was conducted by a knowledgeable older brother. The ladies in the class were encouraged to read scriptures and make comments on the topic that was studied. The men of the congregation likewise read scripture and made comments during this time.

    Worship service:
This congregation had beautiful singing, in line with scripture, making melody with their voices during the worship service. The service was all a capella singing. There was use of power point or projector for announcements and for most all the songs. There were also songbooks for each person to use, if it was needed. The prayers were lead by the men of the congregation. The men also read several scriptures. The Lord's supper was observed having a short message by one of the men, then a prayer for the unleavened bread. They same man had a message and prayer for the fruit of the vine. After communion was taken, they took the time to give an offering (collection for the work of the church and the saints). Songs were arranged throughout the worship service. The sermon was lead by their preacher/ minister. The sermon came right from the Bible, using scripture as reference. He did a great job relating the word to our lives, encouraging us to live life as Christians. An invitation was given at the end of his message. They concluded with announcement and a prayer.

When the congregation was leaving the people stood around talking to one another for a good period of time. We were engaged with several more members in conversation. These conversations were those like family members would have with one another.
